As most customers know the source water for TMU’s water treatment facility is the Thompson River. The water quality in the Thompson River has been adequate this year to allow TMU staff to pump enough water out of the river to nearly fill our raw water storage reservoirs. Even as the dry conditions have become more and more extended TMU has been able to continue to pump water from the river. In fact our staff cleaned out the pump station at the river in mid-June to allow for more efficient pumping operations. These ground storage reservoirs will provide at least 45 days of usable raw water and can provide more if necessary.
Since TMU is able to continue pumping raw water and our storage reservoirs are nearly full we have not considered implementation of any water conservation measures or mandates Should this change TMU will provide a public notice.
While TMU is the treatment source for nearly all residents and businesses of Grundy County, TMU is making decisions about potential water conservation measures only for the City of Trenton. The other water sales providers within Grundy County may have other factors to consider when contemplating water use. Anyone that would have a question about if there are water use restrictions in place should contact their water supplier directly.
