Funeral services for Gordon Wayne Campbell will be held at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton, Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. with family visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Stucker Cemetery, southwest of Laredo.

Mr. Campbell, a 55-year-old former resident of Trenton passed away at 9:05 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Brookhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton, TX, where he had been under hospice care. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer Non-Hodgkins a year ago and had been under treatment at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Mr. Campbell was born Sept. 15, 1956, to Huel and Marian Pollock Campbell. He was the third son in the Campbell family growing up in the Rabbit Ridge Community, south of Trenton. He attended the Pleasant View R-6 School and graduated from Trenton High School in 1974. He graduated from Trenton Junior College in 1976 and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from the University of Missouri in 1978. He was a 10-year member of the Rabbit Ridge Rustlers 4-H Club and a member of the Trenton FFA thru high school and junior college.
While living in Trenton, Mr. Campbell was a member of the Liberty Chapel Christian Church, where he was a deacon, church board secretary, teacher and song leader.
While attending junior college, he worked part-time at Mr. John’s, a men’s clothing store in Eastgate Shopping Center. When he was at MU, he worked at a nursery at Elsberry and Chillicothe.
On Jan. 1, 1981, he opened “The Plant Gallery” in Trenton. He sold out in 1989 and has been employed at nursery and garden centers in Parkville, Wichita, KS and Dallas, TX. He was employed at BWI Inc. in Carrollton, when he became ill.
While in Trenton, Mr. Campbell was active in the community. He was on the board of the Grundy County Museum, was president of the Downtown Business Association and was a member of the Jaycee’s. He was a board member of the Miss Trenton Pageant and had a big part in the early days of the Missouri Day Festival.
Gordon loved his work with flowers, plants, and landscaping. He enjoyed decorating, especially at Christmas time. When his nephews were little, he spent quality time with them. He looked forward to the family gathering at Christmas and made it special.
Survivors include his mother, Marian Campbell of Trenton; two brothers, David and his wife, Marti of Trenton, and Roger and his wife, Sharla of Laredo; five nephews, Philip, Mark, Jason, Adam, Ben and their families; five step-nieces, Stacy Rainey, Kathy Spencer, Bobbi Polk and Brandy Hastings; a step-nephew, John Limkemann and their families; one great-niece, Addison Campbell; and several step-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Huel, in 2003.
Memorials are suggested to the Liberty Chapel Church, Grundy County Museum or Sesame Hospice in Dallas, TX. They may be left at Resthaven Mortuary.
