Realizing that the existing holiday decorations are now over 16 years old, a committee has been organized to generate funds to purchase four selected types of illuminated snowflakes to alternate with brightly colored red banners accented with miniature snowflakes. The existing decorations will either be sold or refurbished for use elsewhere in town.
Banners in two different styles are available for $55 and $75 each and the lighted snowflakes will cost around $250 each and together, these decorations will cost nearly $15,000 for a total of 125 decorations.
Already a total of $680 has been raised and solicitation letters have been mailed out to over 300 businesses and organizations requesting their support of such an effort. Individual contributions are also being encouraged with a minimum of $50 suggested. All contributions are tax-deductible and should be forwarded to the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce at 617 Main St. marked “Holiday Decorations.”
Persons are also encouraged to consider making a contribution to the effort as a form of memorial or an honor of a loved one as a lasting gift to the community in their honor. All donations will be recognized by the local media.
Business and organizational contributions received thus far have come from: Barnes-Baker Automotive, Ron Dougan-Kansas City Life, Green Hills Superior Care, Howard’s Department Store, K-W Popcorn Inc, L& P Dance Performance, Republican-Times, Save A Lot, Trenton Masonic Temple, Trenton R-9 Schools and Wilford Construction Company.
Linda Kennebeck is heading up the effort, saying that she was the Chamber executive when the last purchase of holiday decorations was made and encourages the same kind of support as was generated in the past. Joining Mrs. Kennebeck on the committee are Kathi Brewer, Debbie Carman, Steve Maxey and Matt Osterthun.
