Dr. McHargue talked about the Gooseberry Festival, which will be held in Trenton this weekend. He and his wife, Cherie, and their family organize the event, which is held each year on the third weekend of June. Several activities are planned, beginning with a tractor pull on Friday night and continuing with events on Saturday and Sunday. Included are a 5K/10K run-walk, a fundraising auction for the Friends of the Thompson House/Grundy County Museum, an art show, an antique machine show and parade, the Kiwanis Little League Tournament, a gooseberry cooking contest, tool sharpening, horseshoe pitching, a ranch rodeo, a music competition and a barbecue. The Grundy County Museum will be open on both Saturday and Sunday, with gooseberry ice cream to be served on afternoon to persons with a paid admission to the museum.
Molly Long, health educator with the health department, talked about the 5K/10K run-walk, which will be held on Saturday morning. She said nearly 100 persons have pre-registered for the race and t-shirts will be given to the first 125 who register.
During the business meeting, it was announced that donations were being accepted for the community fireworks display on July 4.
Next week’s program chairman is Tina Capeder.
