Bailey told about the involvement of his social studies classes with the Thompson House renovation project. As a history buff, Bailey said he thought involvement in the project would be a good way to teach students about local history. He said the students have become very interested in the renovation and have helped with various projects that have stimulated a lot of excitement. He said students have developed videos, Wikipedia articles and produced a virtual tour of the Thompson House. The classes will continue to work with the Friends of the Thompson House as the project progresses, Bailey said.
Gary Dolan, who is involved with the Friends of the Thompson House, said a fundraiser is being held on June 16 in conjunction with the Grundy County Museum to help raise money for the renovation work. He said the group is nearing its goal of having enough money to complete work on the structure.
During the business meeting, members were reminded to finish up their donations for the Every Rotarian, Every Year program, which results in a $100 donation being made on behalf of each club member. The club is paying $60 of those donations.
Next week’s program chairman is Matt Krohn.
