Raymah Lee Alkire, an 88-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Morningside Center in Chillicothe.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday, May 29, 2012) at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial was in the Haseville Cemetery at Humphreys.
Mrs. Alkire was born on July 31, 1923 in Linn County, the daughter of George W. and Nora Mae Losh Hess. She lived in the Laredo and Haseville communities before moving to Chillicothe in 1970. She was a member of the Haseville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing craft projects and crocheting.
She was married on June 18, 1945 in Atwood, KS to Clifton Alkire, who preceded her in death on July 30, 1968.
She is survived by one son, Jim Alkire and his wife, Judy of Dawn; three daughters, Linda Hopper of Tina, Judy Rose and husband, Stewart of Bogard and Pat Adams and her husband, Chad of Chillicothe; one brother, George Hess and his wife, Shirley of Chillicothe; one sister, Betty Furlong of Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Michael Alkire; four brothers, Earl Hess, Merle Hess, Forrest “Bud” Hess and Samuel Hess; and three sisters, Okie Todd, Imogene Newman and Mary Francis Sallee.
