The $10,000 contribution will allow for four $500 scholarships each year beginning with the 2012-13 academic year. At the request of the Whiteakers, the monies are restricted for use in the athletic department and will be shared equally with the four sports offered at NCMC – men’s and women’s basketball, softball for women and baseball for men.
Mr. Whiteaker was a member of the North Central Missouri College Board of Trustees for 18 years, including four years as board president. He also served as a high school football coach and junior college basketball coach in Trenton and coached prior to that in the Princeton and Maysville public schools. He passed away in 2005 and Mrs. Whiteaker died in 2010.
Local attorney Allan Seidel recently presented NCMC Director of Development Steve Maxey with the $10,000 check creating the scholarships. Previous memorial contributions in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Whiteaker will be added to the balance of the scholarship fund adding to the establishment of the NCMC scholarships.
