According to information provided by the CAA, Chief Financial Officer, Janelle Tjarks, reviewed the April financials with the board and highlighted three programs that currently need some attention due to being underspent – Second Chance, Missouri Foundation for Health and Workforce Investment Act grants. She indicated a plan to spend the majority of the Missouri Foundation for Health has been presented to the funder, while the other two grants are going to be more difficult to spend because of less staffing. Ms. Tjarks also informed the board that the line of credit has been paid in full and the money owed to the women’s shelter would be paid in full by the end of May.
The Governance Committee met to review applications from prospective new board members. A recommendation to the full board was made to seat Tammie Brundage as the special interest representative in Mercer County, which was approved.
Further discussion was had regarding board development, which included a brief presentation by Eric Staley from Missionmapping, LLC in Columbia. He addressed the board to report on his visit to GHCAA and discussions he had with the management/leadership team earlier in the afternoon on May 8. He also indicated that he was gathering information to assess the state of the Agency, so that he could prepare a more complete proposal and submit to the Missouri Association for Community Action for review, as they have been commissioned by the state to provide the resources needed to keep the agency moving in a positive direction.
A sealed bid process had been open for the Putnam County Service Center building in Unionville. The board voted to accept the bid of $23,500 from Jeffrey Frazier of Cellular Today. A contract will be negotiated by GHCAA with a closing to take effect in 30 days or less.
Board Chairman Leon Hicks recognized Terri Henderson, Energy Services Director, for stepping up and helping the agency in the past several months. Based on his comments, her added duties and service to the company have not gone unnoticed and a special committee was formed to provide a special token of appreciation for her commitment to GHCAA.
Other items for discussion were agency name change/state branding, an upcoming election to take place for special interest seats and a proposed update to the current employee leave policy.
