Pirates Suffer 12-0 Loss In Region Tourney Opener

The North Central Missouri College Pirates baseball team dropped its first-round game in the NJCAA Division I, Region 16 Tournament on Wednesday in Joplin. The Pirates fell 12-0 to Jefferson College, falling into the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament as a result.

The Pirates couldn’t control the Jefferson lineup, yielding two runs in each of the first three innings. Jefferson capped the scoring run off with a three-run spot in the fourth that took the lead to 9-0. Jefferson added three in the seventh to get the win.
James Ball was the losing pitcher on the hill for the Pirates. Ball threw six innings, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and a hit batter while striking out three. Edward Pena threw the seventh, allowing three runs on three hits.
Offensively, the Pirates never got going and were shut out, tallying just four hits and two walks in the game.
With the loss, NCMC fell to 8-39-1 on the season. The Pirates will look to rebound today as the Region 16 Tournament continues in Joplin.
