The Trenton High School track and field teams traveled to Lawson on Monday for the Nick Sloop Invitational. Both the Trenton boys and girls scored over 130 points at the meet, but that wasn’t enough for a team title on either side as the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs both finished second in the seven-team field.

Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs scored 135 team points and won seven events on their way to a runner-up finish behind Lawson’s winning total of 140 points.
Chandler Wilson grabbed four gold medals and 40 points for the Lady Bulldogs at the meet. Wilson won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.43, the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.05, the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01 and the triple jump with a mark of 34-0.
“Chandler has been a strong leader for us in track,” Lady Bulldogs’ Coach Chris Parks said. “She was in four open events and excelled in all of them. Besides running, her and one of my seniors, Mackenzie Mack have made sure all the relays are running effectively, and really just been great leaders for us all year.”
Maddie Hooyman captured an individual gold in the high jump, after clearing 5-0, and combined with Scotlin Hurley, McKinley Hurley and Mack to win both the 4×200- and 4×400-meter relays. The foursome won the 4×200 with a time of 1:51.8 and the 4×400 with a time of 4:25.1. The four also ran runner-up in the 4×100-meter relay, finishing with a time of 52.4.
“Even though the 4×100 didn’t win it was still one of our better times of the year,” Parks said. “That group just continues to get better and better.”
Mack and both Hurleys also placed in their fourth events. Mack ran second to Wilson in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.1, Scotlin Hurley ran second to Wilson in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.1 and McKinley Hurley placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.

Other placewinners for the Lady Bulldogs included Sole, third in the triple jump with a mark of 31-06 and fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:43; Alexis Fender, third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.03; Ashley Osborn, fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.17 and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.91; Mallory Hooyman, fourth in the high jump with a mark of 4-06; Kendra Lickteig, fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:46; and Anderson, fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14:10.
“Overall, I was pleased with the girls performance,” Parks said. “We ran a lot better than we did Friday. Even though Lawson beat us by five points, we still went out and had a great performance.”

The Trenton boys tallied 131 points, finishing second only to Lawson’s 153 points. The Bulldogs scored first-place finishes in six events.

“Both Seth and James ran really, really well,” Bulldogs’ Coach Wes Croy said. “They are part of that middle distance group we have that is really solid. Our 4×400 and 4×800 teams are posting some of the better times in the state right now and in their individual events, the 800 and 400, they have posted times that are very competitive. They have really done a great job.”
Colby Larson also gave the Bulldogs a gold medal with a win in the long jump after leaping 19-02.

“We have had a great year as a whole,” Croy said. “This has been a good group, they have worked really hard and right now we just have some guys who are banged up that we need to get healthy. If we can do that it will be pretty interesting when districts roll around.”
The Trenton track teams return to action today, traveling to the LeBlond Relays in St. Joseph. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 o’clock.
