RSVP Honors Volunteers

The Grundy County RSVP held its annual Recognition Banquet on April 17 with 171 RSVP volunteers in attendance.

There are currently 283 RSVP volunteers who contributed over 61,000 hours to local non-profits, health care facilities and public agencies in this past year.
Recognized as the Female Volunteer of the Year was Carolyn Dickerson. Mrs. Dickerson has been a RSVP volunteer for 22 years with 4,641 total lifetime hours. She volunteers at the Church Women United Thrift Store, RSVP and the Neighboring and Community Development Program of Non-Profits. She has worked the Bingo fundraiser for the North 65 Center and RSVP for 22 years, making pies weekly for 10 years and bi-weekly for 12 years. For the last 12 years she has been bookkeeper for the Leisure Lake Association.
Recognized as the Male Volunteer of the Year was Mrs. Dickerson’s husband, Max. He has been a RSVP volunteer for 23 years with 4,474 total lifetime hours. He volunteers at the Church Women United Thrift Store, RSVP, North 65 Center and the Neighboring and Community Development Programs of Non-Profits. Dickerson has worked the Bingo fundraiser for 23 years. He served on the Grundy County Council on Aging board for many years and now serves on the RSVP Advisory Board and the Senior Citizens Services Fund Board.
RSVP had 13 persons who reached five years of continuous service. The were Bruce Dittberner, Junior and Sue Ellis, Joan Griffin, Charles Mang, Jim Moore, Jerry and Deanna Trump, Doris Veeder, Beverly Whorton, Bill Wiggins and Delvin and Jeannie Wilford.
Seventeen persons reached 10 years of continuous service, including Bessie Arnold, Ethel Mae Bretz, Noela Chandler, Betty Eads, Sharon Ferris, Fred Foster, Jean Hughes, Ida Little, June Pickett, Goldie Ruegsegger, Jo Ann Seward, Carol Simmons, J.R. Stottlemyre, Evelyn Trickel, Virgil and Susanne Walden and Leona Waterbury.
Reaching 15 years of continuous service were Ethel Booth, Edith Little, Virginia Lynch, Margaret Rice, Jean Rousselot, Hazel Terry and Edna Thompson. The longest serving person is Venna Thompson with 32 years.
RSVP is a part of Corporation for National Service. The local sponsor is the Grundy County Council on Aging. The Grundy County RSVP Director is Edna Foster.
