It was announced that the annual garage sale will be held May 5 with maps available at The Famous. A $5 donation is requested to be listed on the map. There will also be ads in the newspaper and in the radio. There is no charge to set up on the square. The Helping Hands group will be having both a garage sale and a bake sale.
It was agreed to send another bill to the drama class for the rent of the Cow Palace. It was voted to have a contract for anyone renting the Cow Palace and Matt Krohn agreed to draw up the contract to meet the chamber’s needs.
Volunteers are needed to plant the flower boxes around the square. The senior center, Breadeaux Pizza, The Famous and Shelter Insurance each volunteered to take care of the flowers nearest their business.
In addition to the July 4 celebration at the school, the Mercer County Courthouse will be celebrating its 100th anniversary with a free supper planned from 3 to 5 p.m. at the courthouse. Other activities that day will include the annual American Farmer Tractor Cruise. The tractors will be on display when they return to Princeton. The chamber will be serving free watermelon and there will be political speakers and local talent on the school grounds. Glen Kirby is the pyrotechnician for the event.
Calamity Jane Days was discussed. It was agreed to pay $350 to the Helping Hands group to take care of the parade and the baby show. The polka band has requested more money and after discussion, it was agreed to ask for a detailed expense report. Danny Gentry’s band has contacted Donna Herdrich about playing at the event, which has a theme of “Fifty Years of Beauty” because it is the 50th year of the queen contest. The group is asking all of the past queens to ride together on a float during the parade, then meet on the bandstand later for a special program.
Mr. Knorr has been contacted and will be asking all bands in the parade to gather after the parade in front of the bandstand and play a song together. There has been meeting of the tractor ride group to make plans and Julie McFee will be making contracts about having a pedal tractor pull. The board also discussed a time change for the alumni banquet as requested by Krohn and set the date and time as the Sunday of the festival at 12:30 p.m. at the school. It was also noted that the car show will be held that day on the square.
