Trenton put three golfers in the top 15 at the tournament with Brad Ewald leading the way with a score of 94. That mark ranked Ewald seventh overall individually at the tournament. Cade Mullenix placed ninth with a score of 95 and Nick Gass was 15th overall with a 98. Chris Kurtz and Jak Klinginsmith were also in action for the Trenton JV. Kurtz rounded out the team score with a 100 and Klinginsmith shot a 104.
“I was real pleased with our overall performance,” Bulldogs’ Coach Travis Mullenix said. “Macon is a hilly course with a ton of blind shots and the greens are faster than what we are used to. I thought Cade and Nick did a great job of handling their first 18-hole tournament, both earning individual medals along with our team medal for second place.”
Trenton’s score of 387 was second behind only Marshall, which won the tournament with a team score of 375. Marceline was the first school behind Trenton, finishing third with a score of 391. Macon and Kirksville both shot scores of 394 to round out the top five.
Kirksville’s Collin Kurtz had the low-overall score at the tournament with an 84, and Garrett Green of Marshall was the runner up with an 88.
Trenton’s JV and varsity teams will be back on the links today, playing host to Chillicothe and Princeton in a triangular match at the Riverside Country Club in Trenton. Tee time for the event is set for 4 o’clock.
