Trenton was led by Blake Schlarb and Chase Tolson, each of whom placed in the top 10 individually at the tournament to earn medals. Schlarb came around the 18-hole layout with a score of 78 via twin 39 nine-hole scores. The mark placed Schlarb third overall behind only Excelsior Springs’ Austin Hardison (70) and Cameron’s Carter Morrison (77). Par for the course was 71.
Tolson, meanwhile, placed ninth individually, shooting a front-nine 38 and a back-nine 44 for an 82 overall.
Joey Christenson and Lane Beverlin just missed the top 10, finishing 11th and 12th respectively. Christenson shot an 84 with two nine hole scores of 43 and 41 and Beverlin shot a 44 and a 41 for a total of 85 to round out the Bulldogs’ team score.
Austin Norris was also in action for the Bulldogs, finishing 16th overall with a score of 87. Norris shot a 43 on the front nine and a 44 on the back en route to his total score.
“I was very pleased with our effort,” Bulldogs’ Coach Travis Mullenix said. “We had five guys within the top 16 and two of those in the top 10. Out of 72 players that’s pretty good. Blake played real well and turned in a 78, which tied him for third overall, and he won the card playoff. Blake likes the Cameron course and he showed that with a real good score. The rest of the boys all played well. Any time you can go to a tournament and have to throw out an 87, you are going to be in good shape with respect to team score. There were seven teams from our district, including ourselves, at the tournament, so it was nice to have an opportunity to compete against them at this point in the season.”
Cameron placed four golfers in the top 10 and took their own tournament with a team score of 319.
Excelsior Springs had two golfers in the top 10 and finished second with a score of 324. Trenton placed third with their score of 329 and Maryville (360) and Chillicothe (366) rounded out the top five.
Trenton will look to build off its strong showing in Cameron on Friday as they travel to the Richmond Tournament. Tee time for the event is 9 a.m.
