Superintendent Dr. Bryan Copple said he presented Doug Fairley a plaque in appreciation for 24 years of service on the board, noting that his guidance and involvement will be missed.
The oath of office was given to Mike Otto, a returning board member, and Marty Altiser, a past board member who will fill a position vacated by Fairley. Officers were elected and include Chris Gibson, president; Otto, president; and Brad Smith, treasurer.
The board set preschool fees for the 2012-2013 school year at $10. Charges will be assessed on the number of days school is in session, which is an increase from $6 per day currently being charged. The fee will help offset the diminishing state funding for the program.
Heather Michaelis gave a report on the fifth and sixth grade classroom and board members approved Case White, Madison Houston, Jacob Hullinger and Trevor Snyder for vo-tech classes for the next school year. Elementary Students of the Month were recognized and include Kendra Johnson, Hanna Garcia and Cale Miller.
In other business, board members signed teacher contracts and approved the district technology plan and approved the MPR Insurance Company as the health insurance provider for the 2012-2013 school year, with only a 1.6 percent premium increase.
Several upcoming events were announced, including the drama department production of “After Hours” on Friday, with a spaghetti supper to be served prior to the play; the spring concert on April 30; FFA Banquet on May 2; National Honor Society induction ceremony on May 3; and graduation on May 11 at 7 p.m. The last day of school is May 16, with a 12:30 p.m. dismissal.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for May 7.
