Gilman City’s Saige Johnson and Mason Ward each had successful senior campaigns on the basketball court during the 2011-2012 season. Both Johnson and Ward were all-district selections this past season as well as unanimous All-HDC Conference picks. Most recently, both players were selected to compete in the Lion’s Club All-Star Basketball Games in Trenton later this year.
Gilman City Players Earn Post-Season Honors
Johnson helped lead the Lady Hawks to an 11-win season, averaging 15.1 points per game and nearly three steals per game. She broke the 20-point barrier seven times during the season, going for a season-high 25 points on three occasions. Johnson scored her 1,000th career point during the season as well. She is the daughter of Earl and Pat Johnson of Gilman City.
Ward led the Hawks to a 12-win season, averaging 20.8 points per game. Ward also had 2.8 steals and 2.6 assists per game during the season. Ward went for 20-plus points 15 times during the season and eclipsed the 30-point mark three times, including a season high 35 points against Newtown-Harris on Dec. 16. Ward finished the season with 521 points. Ward is the son of Jeff and Bobbie Ward of Gilman City.
