Maxey and Rick Klinginsmith are serving as co-chairmen of the parade, which this year will honor the military and, in particular, the local National Guard Unit, which will serve as the grand marshals. The theme of the parade is “The Sounds of Freedom: A Salute to the Military.” Several military-related events are planned in connection with the parade and, according to Maxey, it is anticipated that entries for this year’s parade will increase. Prizes are to be given in several parade categories and local businesses and organizations are being encouraged to get involved. Two entries have already been received and persons wanting to make an entry can contact either Maxey or Klinginsmith.
It was noted that local and state dignitaries will be invited to participate in the Missouri Day activities, including the parade and that other out-of-town entries are also anticipated.
The parade is being planned by a committee of Rotarians that has been meeting since November. In addition to Maxey and Klinginsmith, committee members include Jacob Black, Debbie Carman, Linda Kennebeck, Diane Lowry, Ralph Boots, Matt Osterthun, Allan Seidel, Steve Taylor, Ryan Vandal, Sarah Maloney and Joe Brinser. Because of the anticipated increase in parade entries and activities, Maxey asked members for their help and noted that the committee meets the second Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. at the Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri.
Additional information about the parade will be made available as activities are finalized.
During the business meeting, it was announced that around six persons have applied for the Charles Holmes Rotary Scholarship to NCMC. A brief report was given concerning the fifth and sixth grade basketball tournament held last weekend.
Members of the Trenton High School Key Club also told about a project they would be doing on Tuesday, April 10 to make the public aware of those who do not have shoes to wear. They will be collecting new shoes, socks and cash donations, which will be donated to the Trenton Rotary Club for its Shoes for Orphan Souls project.
Next week’s program chairman is Dr. Neil Nuttall.
