Council Set To Meet On Monday

The Trenton City Council will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday at city hall.

Items on the announced agenda include an ordinance authorizing an agreement between the city and Grundy Electric for transmission service, an ordinance authorizing an agreement between the city and Larkin Group for professional engineering services, an ordinance calling for an election on Aug. 7 to vote on a fire tax that would expire after 10 years, an ordnance changing the zoning classification for property at 86 NW 10th Avenue from O-1 to I-2 to allow for a new business, an ordinance certifying the April 3 election results, swearing in newly-elected council members, committee appointments, appointment of board representatives, election of a president pro-tem of the council, recommendations from the finance committee regarding the budget and approval of mowing and haying bids. An executive session for personnel is also planned.
In an explanation of the recommendations that will be discussed on Monday night regarding the budget, City Administrator Kerry Sampson said that the recommendation by the Finance Committee to eliminate two sergeant positions in the Trenton Police Department does not mean there will be a reduction in police personnel. Sampson noted that funding provided to the city from TMU will allow the city to maintain the positions
