Bulldogs
The Trenton boys captured gold in eight of the meet’s 18 events. Multiple Bulldogs won multiple events, but Fred Pannell was the only Bulldog to win two individual events. Pannell won both the long jump and the triple jump at the event, taking gold in the long jump with a leap of 20-03 and the triple jump with a mark of 42-03.5.

Trenton also won two relay races, the 4×400-meter relay and the 4×800-meter relay. The 4×800-meter relay team of Fairchild, Fuller, Charlie Hoffman and Michael Witten won with a time of 8:51.85; and the 4×400-meter team of Fairchild, Acton, Sam Cool and Fuller won with a time of 3:36.74.
Adding to Trenton’s point total were runner-up finishes in three of the events it won. Larson was second to Pannell in the long jump with a mark of 20-02, Aric Helmandollar was second to Larson in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.73 and Fuller finished runner-up to Fairchild in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.73. Other second-place finishers on the day for the Bulldogs included Dakota Shultz, who was second in the pole vault with a mark of 9-06; Riley Maberry, who was second in the discus with a throw of 122-08; Helmandollar, who was second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.78; the 4×200-meter relay team of Cool, Jacob Spillman, Pannell and Dillon Triplet, which ran a time of 1:38.96; Acton, who was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.17; and Witten, who was second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:09.17.
“Overall I was really pleased with our effort,” Trenton boys track Coach Wes Croy said. “We had a lot of kids set personal records and when you are besting your best mark from all of last year in the first meet it is a real good sign. The weather we have had this spring has really allowed us, and most of the track programs in the area, to get out more and get ahead of where we were at this point in the season last year. We feel like we are probably a week or two ahead of schedule and our main concern now is just making sure we peak at the right time and not too early.”
Other placewinners for Trenton included Shultz, third in the high jump; Clinton Brenner, sixth in the high jump; Triplet, third in the pole vault; Hoffman, fifth in the pole vault and third in the 3200-meter run; Keegan McGinness, sixth in the long jump and sixth in the 100-meter dash; Gannon Albrecht, fourth in the triple jump; Caleb Feagins, sixth in the triple jump; Wyatt Coffman, sixth in the shot put; Larson, third in the 110-meter hurdles; Witten, fourth in the 1600-meter run; Josh Jarrett, fifth in the 1600-meter run; Cool, third in the 400-meter dash; and Spillman, fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton girls were missing a few key components to their squad due to a scheduleing conflict, but still managed 146 points and a runner-up finish.
Chandler Wilson picked right up where she left off a season ago, capturing three gold medals and a runner-up finish. Wilson won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.53, the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.97 and combined with Scotlin Hurley, Maddie Hooyman and Payton Guile to win the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:30.74. Wilson also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 32-01.5.
Maddie Hooyman wound up with three gold medals as well. In addition to her first-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay, she won the high jump with a mark of 4-10 and combined with Scotlin Hurley, McKinley Hurley and Guile to win the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:55.16.
Second-place finishers for the Lady Bulldogs included Shania Anderson, who cleared 7-00 in the pole vault; Ashley Osborn, who ran the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 19.33; Scotlin Hurley, who was behind only Wilson in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.25; the 4×100-meter relay team of McKinley Hurley, Scotlin Hurley, Maddie Hooyman and Guile, which ran a time of 54.61; Alexis Fender, who finished the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 53.26; and Megan Sole, who ran the 800-meter run in a time of 2:47.69.
“I felt like the girls performed all right,” Lady Bulldogs’ track Coach Chris Parks said. “In a regular track meet you can only place two people in each event and Lawson triple-placed in several events. Overall for the first meet I thought we did alright.”
Other placewinners for the Lady Bulldogs included Mallory Hooyman, who was fourth in the high jump; Sole, who was fourth in the triple jump; Fender, who was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles; the 4×800-meter relay team of Anderson, Sole, Molly Boyle and Katey Norris, which was third; Anderson, who was third in the 3200-meter run and fourth in the 1600-meter run; Boyle, who was sixth in the 1600-meter run and sixth in the 800-meter run; Guile, who was fifth in the 400-meter dash; Osborn, who was third in the 300-meter hurdles; McKinley Hurley, who was fourth in the 200-meter dash; and Nicole Fairchild, who was sixth in the 3200-meter run.
Both Trenton squads return to the track on Friday as they travel to Smithville for action. The meet is set for a 4 p.m. start time.
