Bulldogs Blast LeBlond In Season-Opening Dual

The Trenton Bulldogs boys tennis team couldn’t have asked for a much better start to their 2012 campaign as they thoroughly dominated LeBlond on the road in St. Joseph on Monday. Trenton nearly swept the Golden Eagles, winning 8-1.

Trenton ran out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first wave of singles matches. Austin Busch looked comfortable at his number-one position, winning 8-1, and Isaiah Swann won 8-2 at number two. Karson Hill scored a shutout, winning 8-0 at number three and Nathanyl Bankson picked up an 8-2 win at number four. LeBlond would get on the board at number five, where Sam Muff fell 8-4, but Trenton closed singles play with an 8-1 win from Tyler Maberry that sealed the dual victory before doubles play even began.
In doubles action Trenton kept the heat on, pulling away with three wins. Busch and Swann won 9-8 in the closest match of the dual and Hill and Maberry picked up an 8-4 victory. Muff was able to exact some revenge for his singles loss, teaming with Bankson to take an 8-3 victory to close the dual with an exclamation point for the Bulldogs.
With the win, Trenton established a 1-0 record to start the season. The Bulldogs will look to keep their momentum from the match on Friday as they compete in the Cameron Invitational Tournament. First serves for the event are set for 9 a.m.
