Several personnel items were addressed by the Trenton R-9 Board of Education during an executive session on Tuesday night that followed the regular board meeting.
R-9 Board Makes Personnel Changes
The board accepted the resignation of Travis Mullenix as middle school computer instructor and offered contracts to Chris Kensinger as high school communications arts instructor and Katie Palmer as high school FACS instructor. All certified staff, excluding retirees and accepted resignations, were employed for the 2012-2013 school year. Salaries for those positions will be based on schedules that were approved by the board last month.
Fall and winter sports coaching positions were filled for next year, with most remaining the same as the past season. The biggest changes involve girls basketball, where a head coach is still to be hired. Current Coach Quentin Albrecht will not return to that position next year as he was not offered a contract for that position. Brandon Boswell is listed as the assistant coach.
Assistant coach Charlie Bacon will become the head wrestling coach next year while assistant girls tennis coach Abby Gott will move up to head coach with Lauren Boswell as the assistant.
Other coaching assignments approved include:
High School
Football – Wes Croy, head coach; Chris Parks, Greg Dalrymple and David Sager, assistant coaches.
Girls Golf – no head coach listed.
Girls Softball – Steve Richman, head coach; John Cowling, assistant coach.
Girls Volleyball – Brett Ewald, head coach.
Boys Basketball – Jeremy Austin, head coach; Adam Clark, assistant coach.

Chris Kensinger, who was offered a teaching contract, will also serve as high school assistant basketball and volleyball coach if he accepts the teaching contract.

Girls Softball – no head coach listed; Daniel Gott, assistant coach.
Girls Volleyball – Ruby Walker, head coach.
Girls Basketball – John Cowling, head coach; Casey Beavers, assistant coach.

Middle School Football and Basketball Cheer Squad – Adriane Todd, head coach.
During the open portion of the meeting, the board accepted a three-year contract extension with Quality Network Solutions to continue providing technology services to the school district. Superintendent Becky Albrecht said that by extending the contract, QNS has agreed to reduce the yearly cost increase from 3 percent to 2.5 percent. The contract covers on-site and remote troubleshooting of computers as well as maintenance of existing equipment, firewalls, spam, etc. The district has 440 computers and Mrs. Albrecht anticipates the cost to run around $44,000.
It was noted that district personnel have been pleased with the assistance provided by QNS over the past two years. Prior to QNS, the district had two individuals who provided technology support. It was noted that QNS was used last year to install all the new computer equipment and lines needed in the preschool addition at the middle school as well as in the new weight room, classroom and FACS room renovation.
The board voted to have Athletic Director Kris Ockenfels come up with some type of recognition for THS senior Karson Hill, who recently set the national record for the most number of takedowns in a career. The board recognition will be made at the sports banquet later this month and he is to be invited to next month’s board meeting.
Mrs. Albrecht recognized donations received from Brad and Christy Tolson to help purchase equipment to allow for the basketball goals in the high school and middle school gym to be moved by remote control. A second donation has been received from Bill Brinser and will be added to donations from the Trenton Booster Club to purchase an automated timing system for track.
