Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge will hold its first “First Friday” of the year on Friday April 6.

Several activities will be taking place beginning at 5 p.m., including a new interactive display at the visitor’s center where persons can learn about the habitats found at Swan Lake and the best angling methods for a successful day of fishing on Silver Lake.
At 6 p.m., in the new Outdoor Amphitheater, persons can enjoy supper while listening to the talented family bluegrass band, CurreyKorn. At 7 p.m., the Truman State University Herpetology Club will be presenting an educational program about reptiles with live snakes and lizards. Right before dark, persons can meet at the Outdoor Amphitheater to join refuge staff for a night hike.
There will also be free hotdogs, tower tours and hayrides. Activities continue until dark.
Swan Lake NWR is located one mile south of Sumner.
