Girls
The girls game wasn’t much of a contest as Mercer disposed of the Lady Panthers, who were without their leading scorer Shelbi Stimpson. The game was well in hand after the first quarter as the Lady Cardinals ran out to a 34-4 lead. The game was never closer as Mercer heavily outscored Grundy in each of the remaining three quarters.
Sierra Michaelis led the way for unbeaten Mercer, scoring 39 points. Courtney Owens added 22 points. For Grundy, it was Kylie Littleton leading the way with six points.
The win moved Mercer to 24-0 on the season, while the Lady Panthers fell to 1-20.
Boys
The boys game was a wild one and four quarters were not enough to determine a winner. After a 14-14 first quarter, Grundy went on a 17-7 second quarter run to take a 10-point advantage into halftime. Mercer eliminated that advantage in the third quarter with an 18-8 run and both teams scored eight points in a defensive fourth quarter, forcing overtime. Mercer, already playing without second-leading scorer Trey Michaelis, suffered a blow when their leading scorer, Colton Hartley, fouled out in the bonus period. Grundy took advantage and outscored the Cardinals 7-4 in overtime to grab the win.
Destin Gann led the Panthers with 23 points and 11 rebounds and Mason Larson added 14 points and four assists. Clayton Radcliff had five points, four assists and five steals and Stuart Eller had five points as well. Brody Hatcher contributed with 10 rebounds.
Hartley led the Cardinals with 23 points and Garrett Noe finished with 13.
Grundy improved to 6-15 on the season with the win while Mercer dropped to 19-5.
Mercer will be in action again tonight, hosting Cainsville, and Grundy hosts North Harrison in Galt on Friday night.
