The Airport Advisory Committee and the Administrative Committee of the city council met on Monday, taking care of several items.
City Committees Meet
City Administrator Kerry Sampson said the Airport Advisory Committee will recommend to the council that it stay with Landes Oil in Trenton for branded fuel. Two bids were received and while no official action was taken due to not having a quorum, Sampson said it was the general agreement to stay with a local provider.
The Administrative Committee will send two recommendations to the council involving ordinance for wheelchair safety and animal forage units. Sampson said the mobile wheelchair ordinance will require an amber flashing light on the wheelchairs that can be seen from both directions and that operators are to use sidewalks where possible, but also allows for use of the city streets. The wheelchairs are also to move with the flow of traffic. The animal forage unit ordinance will basically remain the same as first presented, however, will grandfather in those individuals who have units that would not meet the requirements once the ordinance went into effect.
There was a discussion concerning the need for new housing, with several ideas discussed for city incentives to encourage construction. One of those ideas included re-implementation of a practice in which Trenton Municipal Utilities would provide the labor costs for main to private line water and sewer installation. That decision would need to be made by the Board of Public Works. Further discussion will be held on this issue.
Demolition permits were also discussed and Sampson said the permits are needed to allow the city to keep track of contractors who are doing private demolition work. He said that in some cases, demolitions are being done, but clean-up of the area is not. This would help the city know who is not following the demolition process and allow for a mechanism to regulate demolition issues.
