The Gilman girls went back and forth with the Lady Panthers, leading after one quarter, trailing at halftime and leading by a single point heading into the final frame. Pattonsburg would tie the game in the fourth quarter, leading to overtime. After one overtime failed to settle the outcome, the teams went to a second overtime, Gilman City doing so with just four players as fouls began to take a toll on an already slim roster. Despite playing down a girl, Gilman forced a third overtime and then prevailed, winning by a single digit.
Saige Johnson led the Lady Hawks with 25 points while Kady Sperry added 15. Mikayla Toombs scored seven points, Morgan Mulnix had four and Morgan Reed finished with one for the Lady Hawks, now 8-12 on the season
The Gilman City boys also had an up and down game, but didn’t need overtime to pull off the victory. An 18-point fourth quarter was just enough as the Hawks scraped by with a two-point win.
Mason Ward led Gilman, now 11-9 on the year, with 20 points and Zach Cox chipped in 11. Ryan Burrows and Brennon Carey each had six points and Corey Rouner and Mitch Ragan each scored two.
Next up for Gilman City is HDC Conference frontrunner Mercer Tuesday night in Gilman. Action gets under way with the girls game at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow.
