Bill P. Irvin, an 87-year-old Independence resident, died on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. He was a former teacher in the Grundy R-5 School District.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., in Independence.
A visitation is scheduled one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Irvin was born on Dec. 15, 1924 in Amity, the son of James and Goldie Irvin.
On April 7, 1946, he married Viola “Vi” Fry at the Stover Methodist Church. She survives of the home.
Mr. Irvin was a 1943 graduate of Morgansville, KS, High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II, being honorable discharged in 1946. He then attended Central Missouri State University, earning a degree in elementary education. He taught for 30 years in the Grundy R-5 School District, North Kansas City School District and Park Hill School District, from which he retired in 1981.
He was an avid sports fan and loved Colorado, where he and his wife spent summers at Grand Lake, CO and, after his retirement, falls in Frisco, CO. He was a member of the Glendale, CA Christian Church. He belonged to the Missouri State Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to Crossroads Hospice or Buckner United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
