Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs of Trenton matched-up with the Lady Bulldogs of Brookfield and the game was just that, a dog fight. The teams went back-and-forth in the first half with Brookfield holding a 30-29 lead at the break. The home team then went on a 15-7 run in the third quarter and appeared on the verge of handing Trenton their first back-to-back losses of the season.
Trenton put everything together finally in the fourth quarter and came back, closing the game on a 20-9 run to steal the win by two points.
“It was a funny game,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Quentin Albrecht said. “I was really pleased with the way the girls came back in the fourth, but the first three quarters we really struggled offensively. We couldn’t get any type of rhythm going and that has kind of been a theme for us the past couple of games. We are looking for consistency and along the way, if you can still win some ballgames, I guess you have to be happy with that.”
Avery Whitaker led the Lady Bulldogs (7-3) with 16 points and Makaila Capeder was right behind her with 15 points. Scotlin Hurley added 12 points, Maddie Hooyman had seven and Megan Sole and Cassidy Cotton each had three.
Bulldogs
The Trenton boys made their move in the middle frames. After playing Brookfield to a 12-12 tie in the first quarter, Trenton outscored their hosts 9-5 in the second quarter and 14-9 in the third. The teams then closed the game scoring16 points each in the fourth, giving Trenton the nine-point victory.
“We looked a little sloppy at times, a little unsure of ourselves, but the boys played really hard,” Bulldogs’ Head Coach Jeremy Austin said. “That was by far our best defensive effort of the season. We had a lot of highlights, we just made a lot of mistakes on the offensive end. I thought some guys played really good, though.”
The Bulldogs (4-6) were led by Colby Larson, who had 17 points, five rebounds and two assists, and Keegan McGinness, who had 14 points. Seth Acton had six points, Austin Taul and Wilson Utley scored four points each and Chase Tolson had three points, five rebounds and four steals. Chanse Houghton and Brennon Vandevender rounded out the Trenton scoring with two points and one point respectively.
Both THS squads return to action next week in the South Harrison Tournament.
