Persons participating in the 2011 Green Hills Wellness Challenge will get an extra bonus for taking part in the 2012 challenge.
Wellness Challenge Includes Maintenance Component
According to Grundy County Health Department spokesperson Molly Long, 2011 participants will be eligible to win a $300 maintenance prize. The money will be awarded to the individual who has maintained the highest percentage of weight loss throughout 2011.
Weigh-ins for the maintenance prize will be done on Thursday, Jan. 12 and Friday, Jan. 13, the same days the initial weigh-ins for the 2012 challenge take place. Weigh-ins are done at the Ketcham Community Center and the Grundy County Health Department.
There is no cost to participate for the maintenance prize. Those individuals who are eligible to complete will be notified by e-mail (for those who provided an e-mail address last year) or through the news media.
This year’s wellness challenge begins on Jan. 12 and 13 and runs for 12 weeks. There is a $10 entry fee per person, a portion of which goes toward the monetary prizes as well as for a wellness/fitness journal that is to be kept by each participant during the 12-week event. Persons who complete the journal and turn it in will be placed in a drawing to win one of either two one-year memberships to the KCC or two one-year subscriptions to the Republican-Times newspaper. The health department, KCC and R-T are sponsoring the wellness challenge.
For persons who lose at least 10 percent of their initial weight, monetary prizes will be awarded based on the amount available of money available ($1,500 and a portion of the entry fees) and the number of persons who achieve the 10 percent-plus mark.
For more information about the wellness challenge, persons can contact Mrs. Long or Elizabeth Gibson at the health department, 359-4196.
