Lady Panthers
The Grundy girls were dealt a big blow early as Hale ran out to a 17-8 lead in the first quarter. Things only got worse in the second quarter as the Lady Cardinals added 11 more points to their advantage. A 20-5 run by Hale to start the second half put the game out of reach. Hale closed the game with yet another run to take the game by 43 points.
Shelbi Stimpson led the Lady Panthers in the loss with nine points and McKenna Owens scored five.
The loss dropped the Lady Panthers to 0-6 on the season.
Panthers
The Grundy boys jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter, but the second frame couldn’t have been more of an opposite. Hale turned it on, running up 26 points to take a 28-16 halftime lead. The Cardinals continued to outscore the Panthers in the second half, though not as drastically as they did in the second quarter, continually pulling away down the stretch for an 18-point win.
“Turnovers hurt us, especially in the second quarter where Hale outscored us by 18 points,” Panthers’ Head Coach Les Jackson said.
Grundy was led in the loss by Destin Gann, who finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Brody Hatcher added nine points. The Panthers also got eight points from Clayton Radcliff.
The Grundy boys fell to 0-6 on the season with the loss.
Grundy will again look for win number one on Thursday as the Lady Panthers and Panthers travel to Mendon to face Northwestern. Action tips off at 6 p.m. with the girls contest and the boys game will follow.
