The Mercer High School basketball teams continued to roll Monday night, following up HDC Conference Tournament championships with a sweep of Braymer at North Central Missouri College’s Holiday Hoops in Trenton. The Lady Cardinals remained undefeated on the season, picking up a 69-34 win over the Lady Bobcats and the Cardinals finished the sweep with a 50-44 win over the Braymer boys.

Lady Cardinals
The Mercer girls ran out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter, but it was their 24-9 run in the second quarter that gave them complete control of the contest. Mercer outscored Braymer 22-10 in the third quarter and 8-7 in the fourth on their way to the 35-point win.
Sierra Michaelis led the way for the Lady Cardinals, scoring a game-high 35 points. Kassidy Stark hit double figures as well, scoring 16 points for the Lady Cardinals.
With the victory, Mercer’s record improved to 7-0 on the season.
Cardinals
The Mercer boys got the job done as well, despite playing a much closer game. The Cardinals ran out to a 14-9 lead in the opening eight minutes, but the Bobcats reeled in the Cardinals in the second quarter. At the break it was all square at 27-27. Braymer would go on to take a 40-34 lead with one quarter to go, but the Cardinals closed strongly, outscoring the Bobcats 16-4 in the final frame to take the game, 50-44.
Colton Hartley scored a team-high 19 points to pace the Cardinals and Trey Michaelis chipped in with 17 points for Mercer.
The Cardinals’ record on the season improved to 5-2 with the win.
Both the Lady Cardinals and Cardinals will be in action once more at NCMC Holiday Hoops. Mercer plays at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton on Thursday. The Mercer boys will take on Hale at 10:30 a.m. and the Lady Cardinals will face Marceline at noon.
