For the second time in as many games, the Trenton High School junior varsity girls basketball team thoroughly trounced their opponent. Monday night in Trenton, the JV girls routed Plattsburg, 49-7.
JV Girls Are Runaway Winners Again
The lopsided victory came just three nights after a 42-9 win over Cameron. The latest win, the JV girls’ third in a row, improved the Lady Bulldogs to 3-1 on the season.
Trenton used pressure defense in the first quarter to jump out to a 17-1 first quarter lead. After backing off the press in the second quarter, Trenton continued to stretch the lead. The Lady Bulldogs went into the locker room with a 25-3 lead. In the second half Trenton was on cruise control, easily picking up the 42-point win.
“The girls played really well,” Trenton girls JV Coach Brandon Boswell said. “They were able to really play at a high tempo, which is what we have been wanting to do. They are really starting to gel as a team.”
The Lady Bulldogs were very balanced on the night as Tosha Wilson, Bekah Wiggins and Megan Derry all three finished with 11 points each to pace Trenton. McKinley Hurley added eight points, Payton Guile finished with six and Maggie McNabb rounded out the Trenton scoring effort with two points.
The junior varsity will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Both the Trenton girls and boys teams will travel to Unionville to take on the Putnam County junior varsity squads.
Action tips off with the girls contest and the boys will follow.
