Albert Sawyer, a 71-year-old resident of the Galt community, died on Wednesday afternoon Dec. 7, 2011 at the Heartland Hospital in St Joseph, where he had been life flighted from Milan earlier in the day.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at the Galt Christian Church. A family visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. The body will be cremated following the services.
General visitation will begin Saturday morning at the Payne Funeral Home in Galt, which is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Sawyer was born on July 30, 1940 at Trenton, the son of Albert Edgar and Thelma Ashbrook Sawyer. He graduated from Galt High School and then joined the United States Navy.He served in the Navy for 10 years and upon his honorable discharge he returned to Galt. He was married to Bessie Radcliff on April 19, 1968 at Galt. They had lived in the Galt area most of their married lives. Mr. Sawyer was an owner operator truck driver hauling freight across the United States.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Sawyer of the home near Galt; two sons, Matt Sawyer of Kirksville and Travis Sawyer of Galt; a daughter, Suzie Murphy of Trenton; four grandchildren, Cassie Murphy and Hailey, Breanna and Gunner Sawyer; and a step-sister, Joyce Pfleger.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, D.B. (Delwin) Jackson, with whom he was very close; and two step-sisters, Gladys Jackson and Darlene Marr.
