The Grundy R-5 High School basketball teams opened their seasons Tuesday, facing Tina-Avalon at home. Neither R-5 team could get a win as the Lady Panthers lost 46-26 and the Panthers fell 41-35.

The Lady Panthers (0-1) fell behind early and were never able to recover against the Lady Dragons. Katie Coin and Shelbi Stimpson led the way with seven points each.
The Grundy boys came close, but couldn’t pull out the victory. Destin Gann had 14 points, 15 rebounds and four steals to lead the Panthers (0-1). Brody Hatcher had seven points and six rebounds and Stuart Eller had six points and 10 rebounds.
Grundy returns to action Thursday night at Green City. Action tips off at 6 p.m.
