Trenton established a 12-8 first quarter lead and built onto the advantage slowly throughout the night, winning by 10 in the end.
Sophomores Wilson Utley and Chanse Houghton, splitting time between varsity and junior varsity this season, made sure the Bulldogs came away with the victory. Utley led the way, tallying 16 points and seven rebounds and Houghton chipped in with 11 points, five assists, three rebounds and a steal.
Trenton also got eight points from Bailey Owen and seven points, three assists and two steals from Chase Tolson, another varsity flex player. Gannon Albrecht rounded out the Trenton scoring with two points and also had a steal. Chris Kurtz gave Trenton four assists and four rebounds.
“The boys did a good job of creating a lot of opportunities to score, even though we were a bit sloppy around the basket,” Trenton JV boys’ Coach Adam Clark said. “Our defense played well enough to keep Carrollton from closing the gap. The boys were able to score double digits in each quarter, while only giving up one double digits in each quarter on defense. Wilson Utley was a strong presence throughout the game for us. Chanse went five of six from the charity stripe and Bailey Owen came off the bench to give us a scoring spark.”
With the win, the JV boys improved to 2-1 on the season. There was no junior varsity girls game played as Carrollton did not provide a girls team.
Both Trenton JV squads will return to the court on Friday as they take on Marceline at home in the THS gym. Action tips off with the girls contest at 6 p.m. and the boys match-up will follow.
