The Grundy County Salary Commission met Tuesday afternoon, voting 4-3 to leave the salary for those taking office in 2012 and 2013 at their current level.
Salaries Set For Officeholders
According to Grundy County Clerk Betty Spickard, the commission, which is comprised of all county officeholders, elected Associate Commissioner Joe Brinser to serve as chairman. Grundy County Col-lector/Treasurer Colleen Williams requested a 2 percent cost of living increase, which would become effective with the next election. Associate Commissioner Gene Wyant made a motion, which was seconded by Presiding Commissioner Rick Hull, to leave the salaries at the current level, which is 100 percent of the maximum allowed by law. The salaries are based on the county’s valuation, which is currently $110,821,513. The salaries would not move into a new salary range until valuation reaches at least $131,000,000.
When voting occurred, the group was split 4-3, with Wyant, Hull, Mrs. Spickard and Grundy County Sheriff Rodney Herring voting yes and Mrs. Williams, Grundy County Assessor Don Stotts and Grundy County Prosecu-ting Attorney Carol Wetherell voting no. Grundy County Probate Clerk Joyce Tuttle and Grundy County Coroner Tom Eads were absent and Brinser, as chairman, did not vote although he indicated that if he could, his vote would be “yes.”
Current salaries for elected offices in Grundy County are presiding commissioner, $27,080; associate commissioners (two positions), $25,080 each; county clerk, $38,000; collector/treasurer, $38,000; assessor, $38,000; sheriff, $42,000; prosecuting attorney, $45,000; public administrator, $38,000; and coroner, $11,000.
