TMS Basketball Is Off And Running

The Trenton Middle School basketball program couldn’t have asked for a much better start to its 2011 campaign than the one it got Monday night. Trenton took four teams to Milan for the season opener and returned to town with three victories.
Trenton took a 37-9 win in the girls A game, a 48-27 win in the boys A game and a 34-17 win in the boys B game. Trenton’s only loss came in the girls B game where the Trenton Gold girls fell by one point, 22-21.

Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton girls Black team took off very quickly in the girls A game, running out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter and by halftime the Lady Bulldogs had increased the lead to 20-3. The lead would grow to as many as 32 in the second half before a final score of 37-9.
Daryian Otto led the offense with 14 points and three rebounds and Karly McCollum followed with eight points and three steals. Ally Ockenfels added six points and three rebounds and Whitley Richman had five points, five assists and three steals. Trenton also got two points and two steals from Sadie Roy; two points, five assists and two steals from Lexie Tolson; and three rebounds and three assists from Mason Hooyman. The A team established a 1-0 record with the win and will return to the court on Thursday night against Marceline in the middle school Black team’s home opener in Trenton. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
The Trenton Gold girls team was defeated by a single point, falling 22-21. Tenna Roberts led the Trenton Gold girls with seven points, while Jaylen Neff scored six and Payton Adwell and Lana Raymo each scored three points. Hannah Kennebeck scored two points.
“The girls played extremely hard and, for the first game, did very well,” Trenton Gold girls Coach Casey Beavers said.
The Trenton Gold girls, now 0-1, will play tonight in the Gold team’s home opener in Trenton. The Lady Bulldogs will tip off against Kirksville at 6 o’clock in the TMS gym.
Bulldogs
The Trenton boys Black team handled Milan in the boys A game, winning 48-27. Colton Neff led the Bulldogs with 14 points and was followed by Cree Mullenix, who scored nine. Kail McCarter and Connor Cotton each chipped in six points and Gavin Albrecht scored four. Brice Dillon added three points to the Bulldogs’ effort and Eli Leininger, Spencer Harris and Corbyn Guile scored two points each.
The TMS Black team established a 1-0 record and will be at home on Thursday night, facing Marceline at home in Trenton following the girls game.
The Trenton Gold boys team came away with a 34-17 victory. Spencer Harris led the charge for the Bulldogs, finishing with 18 points, seven steals and four rebounds. Corbyn Guile added five points and six steals and Ellis Gilham added five points three steals and six rebounds. Trenton also got four points from Tucker Franklin, two points from Nate Swann, two rebounds from Cade Darting, two rebounds from Alex Parrack and one rebound from Jacob Davis.
“This was a great opening game for our team,” Trenton Gold boys Coach Mike Tipton said. “The young men played very hard and all of our players contributed quality minutes in securing this win.”
The Trenton Gold boys return to the court tonight facing Kirksville in Trenton following the girls game.
