Fred Kerr, an 85-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at the Indian Hills Retirement Village in Chillicothe.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today (Monday, Nov. 7, 2011) at the Chillicothe United Methodist Church. Burial was in the May Cemetery at Chula.
Mr. Kerry was born on Feb. 20, 1926 in Staunton, IL, the son of James W.P. and Cornelia Tolley Kerr. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School in Knoxville, IL and attended the University of Illinois, receiving his bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1953.
He was married on June 16, 1950 in Morton, IL, to Velma Ackerman, who survives of the home. They moved to Chula in 1960 and began farming.
He was a member of the Chillicothe United Methodist Church, the Gideon’s International and the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship. He was a past board member of the House of Prayer and the Chula Farmers’ Co-Op.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Thomas Kerr and his wife, Marsha of Chula, John Kerr of Humble, TX and David Herr and his wife, Brenda of Chillicothe; one daughter, Judith Phillips and her husband, Christopher of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; and three-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James; a half-sister, Dorothy; one daughter, Linda; and one son, Frank.
