Grundy Teams To Play For Consolation Titles

The Grundy R-5 Junior High School basketball teams staved off elimination Wednesday night at the Tri-County Tournament in Jamesport. The Lady Panthers defeated Tri-County 15-14 in the consolation semifinals and the Panthers defeated the Tri-County boys 37-23 in the consolation semifinals to advance as well.

Lady Panthers
The Grundy girls picked up their first win of the season and did so in thrilling fashion, picking up a one-point victory in overtime. Tri-County led the game until a 7-3 run by the Lady Panthers in the third quarter that put Grundy up 9-7 with one quarter to go. Tri-County rallied to tie the game, but Grundy got a free throw in overtime to win the game.
Matana Munday led the Grundy girls (1-5) with eight points and Jodi Dickerson scored three points.
Panthers
The Grundy boys used a 15-2 run in the first quarter to set the tone for the game and the Panthers led start to finish.
Leading the way for the Panthers (4-2) was Mason Alley, who had 12 points and nine rebounds. John Piodos added eight points and nine steals and Tanner Hudson had six points and eight rebounds. Mason Radcliff chipped in with five points.
The Grundy boys and girls will now play for consolation titles Friday night in Jamesport. The girls will face Newtown-Harris for the girls bracket, while the boys take on Gilman City in the boys bracket.
