She grew up in rural Missouri, graduating high school at the age of 16 and becoming a teacher. She attended college in St. Louis. In St. Louis, she acquired a position with the U.S. Government. After moving to San Antonio and San Angelo, TX, Alaska and Korea, she and her sister, Marguerite settled in Waldorf, MD, with a position at the Department of Interior. She was married two times.
After learning her mother was ill, Ms. Carter moved back to Princeton, where she became her mother’s primary caregiver until her mother’s death in 1971. Her sister, Marguerite, also became ill, and she cared for her until she passed in 1980. In 1997, Ms. Carter went to Colorado to bring her brother, William, home to live with her and care for him. William died in 1998.
She is survived by several great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
