‘Happy Accident’ Leads To Business Opportunity

Oct 27, 2011 | Area News, Headline News

When commissioned in 2008 for a custom piece of artwork with words about Lee’s Summit, former Galt resident Tosha Snidow Jackson didn’t set out to design something that could translate into a customizable and personalized style of art. But that is exactly what happened.

That “happy accident,” as she calls it, led to the aptly named TYPOGRFX. While each design is completely unique, TYPOGRFX has become an instantly recognizable product with over 175 different pieces created for customers from Washington to Florida and everywhere in between.
While browsing through Country Living magazine this past July, Mrs. Jackson spotted an advertisement for their “Pitch Your Product” promotion. She decided right away to submit TYPOGRFX, confident that her custom-designed product would be a hit. In late September, she received notification that TYPOGRFX had been selected and that she would have the opportunity to pitch it directly to the editors of the magazine as part of the Country Living Fair in Atlanta, GA.
This past weekend, Ms. Jackson made the 14-hour drive to seize her once in a lifetime opportunity.
“Part of me did think that this might be a long shot, but I know in my heart that TYPOGRFX is a unique product with great retail potential,” she said.
The panelists who listened to her pitch agreed and gave great compliments to the originality and design of the product. Final results of the promotion will be announced sometime in the next 45 days, with selected products receiving a showcase in the magazine and the opportunity to be a part of a retail program.
Ms. Jackson returned home with even greater confidence in her product and gratefulness to have had the chance to pitch TYPOGRFX to such a well-known publication. Reiterating the final note of her pitch, she said, “Life is full of happy accidents. The rest is up to you.”
Ms. Jackson is a graduate of Grundy R-5 High School and North Central Missouri College at Trenton. She also served an internship with the Trenton Republican-Times while at NCMC.
