According to information provided by school administrator Mike Garrett, the board heard a report that the attendance for September was 96.5 percent, with a 96 percent attendance rate overall. Garrett told the board that the preschool program has been going smoothly since adjustments were made last month in which qualifying students attend the Early Childhood Special Education program at Pleasant View R-6 School in the morning, Monday through Thursday and the remaining students attend class at Spickard in the afternoon, also Monday through the Thursday.
Garrett reported that he recently attended the Outdoor Leadership Experience of the Leadership Academy. The experience focused on team building and leadership qualities that can be utilized in the district. He told board members that the informational meeting held recently was successful, with updates and future plans being discussed. Several parents/guardians attended the meeting, then went to the classrooms with teachers to get a better understanding of what happens during the day with their students. He also said parent/teacher conferences will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, with classes dismissed at 1 p.m. There are no classes scheduled on Friday.
In other business, the board voted to move the regular meeting time from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, with the time to be considered again in the spring to determine if it should be changed seasonally. Board members also discussed the classes they attended at the Missouri School Boards Association Conference. Policies and procedures were the main topics and board members said they felt it was worthwhile to attend it annually.
An executive session was held to discuss personnel and students, with no announcement made.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21.
