According to TMU Director Chad Davis, the project will include field surveying the systems and converting them from the previous mapping format to a different format. The field work includes surveying the location of utility feature such as poles, transformers, manholes, valves and fire hydrants with global positioning system equipment and collecting data about the field assets such as pole heights and manhole inspection data. Davis said the current focus will be the primary electric lines and the water and sanitary sewer mains. TMU may survey the specific location of service lines at a later date but those will not be incorporated into the system at this time.
The field work is scheduled to take place during the months of October, November and December and residents may notice employees of Midland GIS Solutions working in your neighborhood. Davis said they will occasionally need access into and through private property in order to survey the specific location of the utilities. The city has easements to access the utilities, including performing this type of work. Midland GIS has completed numerous similar projects like this so they are very experienced at being as respectful and unobtrusive as possible while surveying, Davis said.
As with any major project, there may be some inconveniences at times, but this project will not require any interruptions to services, he continued. Persons with questions or concerns may contact Midland GIS Solutions at 660-562-0050 or TMU at 359-2281.
