Over 170 crafters, vendors and flea marketers are registered for the 2011 Missouri Day Festival, which gets under way this evening with opening ceremonies and continues through Sunday.
This website brought to you in part by the following sponsor:

According to Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Carman, this is one of the largest numbers of vendors ever in the 27-year history of the festival. Homemade crafts, clothing, tools and food vendors will be located throughout the North Central Missouri Fairgrounds – inside in the Rock Barn and livestock pavillion as well as outside in the courtyard, parking lot and carnival area.
In addition to private individual and business vendors, there are several organizations using the Missouri Day Festival as a fundraiser with groups such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the American Legion, the VFW and the Rotary Club selling food and homebaked goodies for use in projects around the community. The Trenton FFA will have a petting zoo in the livestock pavillion on Saturday, giving both children and adults a chance to experience “life on the farm” with goats, hogs, sheep and other animals.
One of the more interesting vendors to be at the Rock Barn on both Saturday and Sunday will be “Your Amazing Family,” which will offer free help for persons wanting to begin a family genealogy search. Richard and Christianne Jacobsen, Laura Sue Daniels and several middle school students with whom the Jacobsens have worked as part of a school project will be in the northwest corner of the Rock Barn, where they will help individuals begin a search for family information using computer services that are available for free. Information about other free genealogy services will also be available.
Vendor areas will be open from 9 to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Two members of the Kansas City Chiefs cheerleading squad who will be riding in Saturday’s parade, will also be available in the courtyard following the parade for about one hour, signing autographs and visiting with members of the public. Their visit is being sponsored by Barnes-Baker.
Storytelling will take place in the courtyard area on Sunday, featuring local residents spinning yarns for both young and old. Scheduled storytellers include Richard Ashenfelter, Russell Joiner, Evelyn Trickel and Mark Robinson.
The Trenton Rotary Club is sponsoring the parade on Saturday morning, which will feature 33 bands from throughout Missouri as well as 71 floats, motor vehicles and equestrian entries. “Missouri Day – A Family Tradition” is the theme of this year’s parade with the Barnes Greenhouse family (the Larry and Donna Barnes Christy and family) serving as grand marshals. Parade entries will be lined up no later than 8 a.m. for a 8:30 a.m. start.
Judging will take place in the downtown area, with the winners to be announced at the conclusion of the parade. This year the Rotary Club is offering monetary prizes for five categories, including “Spirit of Missouri Day” (best overall entry), the best business float, best youth float, best organizational float and the largest family riding on a decorated conveyance. There will also be certificates awarded for the best truck/car, pre-1960; best truck/car, 1960 and newer; best equestrian entry; and the oldest tractor.
