Bruce Loren Bartlett Sr., a 76-year-old resident of Richmond and former Trenton resident, died on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 at North Kansas City Hospital after an extended illness.

A celebration of Bruce’s life was held at 10 a.m. today (Monday, Sept. 26, 2011) at the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond. Pastor John Johnson officiated with inurnment at Sunny Slope Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Bartlett was born to Fannie Noss Bartlett and James E. Bartlett in Ramona, OK. He and his wife, Jane, resided in Trenton for several years, where he served as manager of the Missouri Public Service. He was a lineman, foreman and service man for Missouri Public Service and served as an area supervisor for the company at Marshall, retiring in 1995. Upon retirement, he attended the University of Missouri Law Enforcement Academy, graduating in the fall of 1995. He served as Saline County Deputy and Marshall police officer for five years.
He was an avid Civil War enthusiast. Over the past 30 years he has spoken to many civic and children’s groups about his hobby and wrote several articles on metal detecting and the Civil War that were published in national Civil War and Treasure magazines. He was also an accomplished woodcarver.
Mr. Bartlett was a Korean War veteran, reaching the rank of technical sergeant, senior parachutist with the Pathfinders in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the Richmond American Legion Post 327, serving as bugler on the honor guard team. He enjoyed trout and bass fishing, bow hunting and photography. He and his wife traveled following his retirement and returned to Richmond to make their home. He was a member of the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane Redwine Bartlett, who resides at the home; his children, Bruce Loren Bartlett Jr. and his wife, Donna of Loves Park, IL and Melanie Gill and her husband, John of Kansas City; grandchildren, Andrew Carroll Gill, Emily Karr and her husband, Grant, Amy Couch and her husband, Joe and daughter, Audrey and Kristen Hower and her daughter, Mayia; his adopted in love daughters, Rene Boland and Tina Montgomery; Rene’s husband, David Boland, and grandsons Brent and Austin Boland and Robert Boland; and Sayuri Domoto Clement, a Rotary Foreign exchange student, who lived with the family for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, “Buddy” Carroll James Bartlett, who died in 1984; two brothers, Jim and Marvin; and a sister, Barbara.
