Henry Eckley Wendt, a 90-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at Bristol Manor of Princeton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept, 24, 2011at the First Baptist Church in Princeton, with Rev. Arthur Heriford and Dr. David Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery north of Laredo.
Open visitation and viewing is under way at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton, where the family visitation will be from 7 to 8 o’clock this evening (Friday, Sept. 23, 2011)
Mr. Wendt was born on Oct. 9, 1920 in Half Rock, the son of John Henry and Mary Odessa Swopes Wendt. He raised in the Half Rock community and lived most of his life in Mercer County where he farmed. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW posts of Trenton, a member of the Princeton First Baptist Church and served on the Mercer County Draft Board during the Vietnam War.
In May of 1944, Henry married to Audrey Eilene Baird, who preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 1984. He was later married on Dec. 3, 1985 to Iva Stewart, who preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2002.
He is survived by two daughters, Audrey E. Anderson, of Lemons and Donna Wendt of Bloomfield, IA; two sons, Robert Henry Wendt and his wife, Charis of Fort Dodge, IA, and Frank Wendt and his wife, Nancy of Fairway, KS; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Wendt, of Cainsville; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wives, he was also preceded in death by his parents; two children who died in infancy; two daughters, Viola Jean and Helen Louise Wendt; two sons, Lawson Lee and Andrew Edward Wendt; a son-in-law, Richard Anderson; five brothers, Harley, Sherman, Franklin, Andrew and Lee Wendt; and by three sisters, Margaret Ellen Heriford, Mae Jacques and Mary Tye.
