Last week’s Play Of The Week column, Texas: The Conference Killer, generated quite the buzz on the Republican-Times website with over 50 comments being left. Only a couple of the comments disagreed with the column and the majority came from supportive Nebraska Cornhusker fans. Here are just a few:

I for one, am a Texas alumnus and am “mad as hell” about the way UT has run its house. Texas was pretty much a doormat at the end of the SWC days, and needed the Big 12 to bail it out so that it could maintain a modicum of respectability.  When they became dominant, the attitude around the athletic department became one of “what’s in it for me?” and they started looking to throw their weight around and demand a bigger, better deal. The story since then has been Texas looking out for number one, bitterly griping when things don’t go it’s way, and forgetting that in all things, there is a winner and a loser.

Thank you for telling the story the way it really unfolded and for not making excuses for Texas. I don’t know why no one else realizes what an egomaniacal, power hungry school they are.

Good article Seth, I think the big reason for Nebraska leaving the Big 12 is exactly what Texas is doing to the conference today. The Longhorn network, which forces most of the revenue right into the Texas deep pockets. Nebraska did not want any part of that. Good for them.
I hope Mizzou will be picked up by a major conference. Too bad they were not part of the Big 10 package which was originally thought to be the case.

Very good reporting which is extremely accurate.  I am a Husker fan living in Nevada, MO.  I loved the old Big 8 and miss the camaraderie that these universities enjoyed.  It was equality with revenue sharing and I really don’t remember such dissention in voting situations. I will miss the rivalries that were developed over the years, but I can’t say that I will miss anything south of the Red River. I can only hope that the other Big 8 schools will find a good conference to call home. And I couldn’t agree more, other than the love of money, how could any conference want to bring in a home wrecker like Texa$.

Wow, finally someone calling it the way it is!!  No BS and no politics – dead on target. I love you man! J   Coming from a KC native living in Austin who follows the Huskers.
