Trenton’s offense was on in game one. The Lady Bulldogs tallied 16 runs on 14 hits in just two innings. Avery Whitaker was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs and Maddie Hooyman and Chanel Pash were each 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs as well. McKinley Hurley drove in two runs also and Trenton got RBIs from Rahel Horner, Cassidy Cotton, Shelby Chaney, Kate Lowrey and Scotlin Hurley as well.
Trenton was equally as solid in the field, keeping Summit Christian off the board, allowing the Lady Bulldogs to take the game in the third inning by the 15-run rule for the first time all season. Pash started the game, but threw only one inning. Pash struck out one in a perfect inning and Hurley fanned four and yielded the only Summit Christian hit in two innings of work.
Trenton’s dominating pitching carried over in game two as the Lady Bulldogs earned another shutout, this one by a score of 3-0. Pash went the distance on the hill, allowing no runs on three hits and a walk while striking out a season-high 10 batters, pushing her season-total to 37. The second shutout of the day was the fifth of the season for the Lady Bulldogs in eight games.
Offensively, Trenton tallied three runs, all coming in the fourth inning. Hooyman reached first before Hurley, Pash and Lowrey had back-to-back-to-back RBI hits to account for the Lady Bulldogs’ three runs.
“This game was a good test for us,” Richman said. “The kids handled a pressure situation well. I’m still waiting for the offense to explode against one of these good teams and it will sooner or later. Overall, I was pleased. Chanel pitched well and the defense was strong all game long.”
Trenton, now 8-0 on the season, will look to add another win to its current streak today as the Lady Bulldogs travel to Plattsburg to face the Lady Tigers at 5 p.m.
