The Trenton Lady Bulldogs tennis team was on the road in Cameron on Thursday for its first away dual of the young season. Trenton was able to return home with a win as it defeated the Lady Dragons 7-2. The dual was nearly a sweep for Trenton, which had it’s only two losses come by scores of 9-8 and 8-6.

Jessica Tracy got the ball rolling for the Lady Bulldogs, picking up an 8-2 win at the number one spot. Maria Stevenson, playing number two, dropped her singles match by the slimmest of margins, 9-8 with a tiebreaker.
Following Stevenson’s loss, Trenton ran the tables to close out singles play, winning four matches in a row. Jaci Tracy won 8-3, Haley Creason picked up an 8-2 win, Megan Sole won 8-3 and Alexis Whitney pulled out a 9-7 win.
Jessica and Jaci Tracy capped off strong duals in doubles play, taking an 8-0 win over their Cameron opponents. Stevenson and Creason won 9-7 and Sole and Whitney lost in the final match of the dual, 8-6.
“It’s great to go on the road for our first away dual and come home with a win,” Lady Bulldogs’ Coach Tammy Ockenfels said.
With the win, Trenton moved to 3-2 on the season in dual matches. The Lady Bulldogs will be in tournament action today, traveling to St. Joseph to compete in the Benton Tournament.
Junior Varsity
The Trenton junior varsity was also in action Thursday, defeating the Cameron JV 4-0. Megan Derry picked up a 6-0 win in the first match and Kaylee Lickteig and Alexis Fender followed suit with wins of 6-1 each. The final match of the JV dual was a doubles match which saw Morgan Brown and Magie Steinhoff combine for a 6-1 victory.
