Tennis Team Falls To Chillicothe

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs tennis team would have liked a better start to the season, but a much-improved Lady Hornets’ squad had their number at every turn. Trenton was handed a 8-1 loss at the THS tennis courts on Tuesday afternoon, establishing an 0-1 record in the process.

“It was a tough home opener loss,” Lady Bulldogs’ Coach Tammy Ockenfels said. “The girls gained experience playing in the positions that were new to them.”
Trenton’s only win came from sophomore number-six player Megan Derry, who chalked up her first varsity win with an 8-6 victory.
Maria Stevenson, playing number one for the first time in her career, fell 8-1 and Megan Sole lost 8-1 as well at number two. Alexis Whitney fell 8-0 at number three and Kaylee Lickteig lost 8-3 at number four. Haley Creason lost 8-3 at number five before Derry got the Lady Bulldogs on the board.
All three doubles matches went Chillicothe’s way as Stevenson and Sole lost 8-1, Whitney and Lickteig fell 8-0 and Creason and Derry lost 8-1.
The loss to Chillicothe established an 0-1 record on the season for the Lady Bulldogs. They will look to get in the win column on Thursday as they host St. Joseph-Lafayette at the THS tennis courts at 4 p.m. First serves for the dual are set for 4 p.m.
Junior Varsity
The Trenton junior varsity also fell to Chillicothe on Tuesday, losing 5-2.
Trenton got wins from Morgan Brown and Magie Steinhoff, who combined for a 6-2 doubles win, and Alvynne Villacampa and Jessica Harrison, who combined for a 6-2 doubles win.
Others in action for the Trenton JV included Mercedes Williams and Alexis Fender, who fell 6-2; Siara Bailey and Tristan Dugan, who lost 6-1; Hannah Brinser and Jada Cooksey, who lost 7-6; Ashley Wilson and Hannah Robinson, who lost 6-4; and Kellie Smith and Caitlyn Harris, who fell 6-0.
The JV is now 0-1 on the season and will face Lafayette on Thursday.
