Mercer Homecoming Events Planned

The Mercer Homecoming Committee is finalizing their plans for the annual Homecoming events with the theme being “Let’s Keep It Rolling.”

The events will take place Thursday, Sept. 1 through Sunday, Sept. 4 with carnival rides each day provided by “All Around Attractions” by Chad Young. Early arm band sales for the carnival can be purchased for $15 from local merchants or on that day for $20 each.
On the first day (Thursday, Sept. 1) the activities will start at 6 p.m. with a cake stand followed by the Miss Mercer Contest, the pet show, Mic-O-Say Dancers and ending with local talent around 8 o’clock.
The second day of events (Friday, Sept. 2) start at 6 p.m. with the line up for the kiddie parade, followed by the singing bee and ending with the JFK Band at 8 p.m.
The third and big day of homecoming events (Saturday, Sept. 3) will begin with the UMWF bake sale at 8 a.m. along with the car show east of the Baptist Church. Around 9 a.m. will be the antique tractor show, the flea market and the kids pedal tractor pull. The quilt show, at the Methodist church annex will begin at 9:30 a.m. along with the craft and horticulture exhibits in the community building, and the baby show on the stage. The kid’s games will follow the pedal tractor pull.
Line-up for the big parade will take place at 12:30 p.m. and there will be entertainment at that time by Stephanie Hickman’s Dancers. The big parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. and be followed by pig wrestling. The ice cream social will begin at 6 p.m., followed with Bingo and the “So You Think You Can Dance” competition. The day’s events will end with entertainment by The Three Horsemen and there will be a pre-teen/teen dance at the community building from 9 p.m. to midnight.
There will be a raffle drawing each evening with prizes that were donated by area merchants with the big prizes provided by the homecoming committee to be drawn Saturday evening at 9:30.
Persons will also be able to enjoy tasty food at the carnival concessions, Ragan-Hickman Post 477 and Auxiliary (Legion Hall), senior class stand, the Feedlot, Grammy’s (serving breakfast and lunch) and Mercer Pizza Plus. Boy Scout Troop 105 will also be serving funnel cakes on Saturday evening.
On the final day of events (Sunday, Sept. 4) there will be an alumni dinner at noon (reservations required) and a community church service on the stage starting at 7 p.m.
All events will take place at the new stage/building on the east side of the square.
